Title: Dec. 2025 Bike of the Month
Post by: FromMaine on December 01, 2025, 03:05:49 PM
And just like that, its December. It snowed all the way back on Nov. 11th and Sunday River ski resort opened on that day. My last ride on the bike was Oct 14th, and to be honest, it wasn't great. So time to get some projects going, order some parts, crank up the heaters, and think about Spring.

While looking through the Photo Gallery and wishing I could fast forward the Calendar, I spotted this months winner. It struck me as the bike you would probably would love to throw a leg over for the first ride of the year.  The livery is iconic 80's Honda, the 1000cc V4 motor has more than enough grunt to put an instant smile on your face, even better with a set of F1's or similar, and the quirky 17"/16" tire combo providing a definite conversation starter. Yes, a great bike to start the riding season with. The US only got it in 84, the Europeans go an F2 version up until the 90's.

Congratulations Fastball, your 84 VF1000F is Dec. 2025's BOTM.

This model really started my love affair with the VF/VFRs. Sexy, smooth lines and the best color scheme ever!

I'd dream of a chance to ride that bike.

I've never rode a sport bike but I'm "sport curious".

Such a beautiful machine!

They are quite a unique ride. I've ridden my nephews 1000F for short distances. One of my 1000R's cross country Maine to Calf. and back.
A bit heavy by today's standards, and a CG that will catch you out at zero speed. On the road though, they are pretty much one of the best of the 80's machines. Quick enough in the corners, absolutely  fantastic on cross country rides, where the weight that was a handful at low speeds, made up for it at highway speeds.
Only quibble I have is the 5 speed tranny, when Honda had the the tech know how to make it a 6 speed.
Still a great bike though.

Red, white and blue paint was a great way to put Honda on the radar for many of us, myself included.

Beautiful 1000f!

Maine Michael: I'm surprised you could ride such long distances on a bike that looks like a sport bike. Most sport bike owners say the riding position is hunched too far forward.

Nice to hear from you.

I am the UJR, "Universal Japanese Rider" 5'6", 150 lbs, 32" inseam. Took me until we hit Asheville NC at about 1,100 miles for me and the bike to agree on how to ride it. Wasn't so bad after that.
What's really amazing is that in 2007, when I crashed my Vf700S in NC and spent 4 days in the hospital, the V4 guys from Binghamton NY took it upon them selves to recover my bike and put it on a trailer, which meant one guy put his hand up and rode back,800 miles. That guy was Magoo, at 6'2" on his VFR1000R that I eventually bought. He did it in one day...............
I did manage a 740 mile day on my Cross Country, but 741 was out of the question. :)

That's a good one...

Magoo is special guy. I think his dog might agree.

Ebby and I are pretty fond of each other.

The VF1000R was a joy on the interstate.  I could have went further if it hadn't dipped into the 30's on the way home.
