Title: April 2019 Bike of the Month
Post by: FromMaine on April 03, 2019, 02:56:37 PM
If you have been around awhile you know this month's winners bike.

With 200,000k on the clock and an Alaska heritage, this bike has seen a lot in its life. Snow, studded tires, and a lot of miles in the Boonies.

Now put out to pasture in Hawaii, its still chugging along, a testament to how good maintenance can keep these v4's on the road

Congratulations Cruising Ram, your 85 V65 Magna in Viper Red is April 2019's BOTM.

Looks so good it could almost pass for a Sabre  ;D

200k, and in that shape at the same time -- damn impressive!

That is the higest milage I have ever heard of a V4 having, thats awesome, and Alaskan miles would be double 'normal'.
Still a nice looking bike too....
Amazing.

Wow, thanks guys! I have been busy dodging lava, and I broke an oil line during the evacuation, and just now pulling it out of a shipping container that was out of the lava's way. It is pretty sad right this minute- but in a month, think it will be back on it's feet. It actually still runs super good- if you look back on all my old posts- 99%of my mods were for functionality or longevity.  It has been from Anchorage Alaska to Mexico city and back once, Alaska to Florida 4 times. Across the trans Canada highway once, top of the world highway several times. However, the bulk of the miles was day to day commute- winter or summer in Alaska. The miles come in spurts. I have had it not ridden for 3-4 years at a time, but then put 20k miles on it in 6 months or less. This time it has sat for almost two years. Got Raymond's shock mod, and life got in the way and it still is sitting in the wing box of the bike- going to do this now. Needs tires (and they don't make my Avon's anymore!) fork seals, shock, detailing and battery, ready for another 200k. Now that we have recovered our business from the lava, wife is actually getting on me to get it back on the road for more Hawaii riding! We are seriously thinking of shipping it to California and doing a trip around the US next year as well. I have two new lava rescue project bikes now as well- a 77 goldwing and an 85 Ducati. Moved back on to the farm ( we were evacuated 4 times, lava missed us by a mile, literally) and I am building a new shop. Thanks for remembering me guys, I am getting back in the saddle, so this is very timely!

Well, sad news- I have to decide what to do- the thief ran it hard, fucked it up, and has water in the cylinders, cleaned it out, super low compression now. I am not sure if met it's end or will try a phoenix from the ashes yet.
