Title: April 2016 Bike of the Month
Post by: FromMaine on April 18, 2016, 01:53:38 PM
I really can't tell you much about this bike as the owner as not supplied much info. The pictures do speak for themselves though that this was a very well done restoration. Maybe now its a BOTM we can get him to speak up.

Congratulations Bswiles, your 1983 VF750F is April 2016's Bike of the Month.

Well, that's one way to get someone to speak up about their bike.

That is a darn good look'n bike. Very nice.

Hey everyone, thanks for the honor of Bike of the month. I've been dealing with a family member being in the hospital for the last month  so I haven't been around the boards very much.
Here is a quick breakdown of the work.
It was taken all the way down to the frame. The frame was powder coated a satin black along with the wheels to bring it a slightly more modern look. The frame had a rust hole in it that was repaired. (several said it was a common thing for these 1st gens) The lower forks were powder coated as well and new Race Tech Emulators installed. (Highly recommend this upgrade) A new Hagon rear shock was installed as well. The suspension she now has is better than new and it handles fantastic but I'm still not a fan of that front wheel size. Brakes were refreshed and the calipers were powder coated gray along with the clutch and front brake reservoirs. New chain and sprockets and all new rubber went on as well. Now for the fun part. The cams were inspected and found to be bad (no surprise). Off they went to Mega Cycle for a rebuild back to stock specs. Slip owns were ceramic coated and polished. Additional hours of polishing, cleaning, etc...A new harness, and other stuff went on then the bike was repainted the correct stock colors and a new decal kit put on. VJ Moto in Lewisville Texas did most of the work and Elmer at Northside Cycle in Denton Texas finished up some additional stuff that was over my head. I will post pictures of the restoration process when I get back to my laptop if folks are interested. The bike runs and handles great and will be making its way to a few vintage Japanese Motorcycle shows but I plan to ride it more than show it. I've owned it since 1986 and I believe I am the 3rd owner. It will never be worth what I have in it but I don't care as I don't think I will ever part with it.  Again the credit for most of the work goes to Joe and Craig at VJMoto. (You can find VJ Moto on Facebook) Thanks for the honor of Bike of the Month. Truly awesome!

Michael,

I will disagree to a point: "The bike runs and handles great and will be making its way to a few vintage Japanese Motorcycle shows but I plan to ride it more than show it." Bravo!

This for me is the mark of a man that did it right for the correct purpose.

Those that restore to show quality and don't ride them are not "Riders" and to me not worthy of the same respect that this gent intends.

This is of course just my personal opinion, but I live it.

John
