Title: Oct. 2013 Bike of the Month
Post by: FromMaine on October 01, 2013, 04:52:05 PM
This months winner caught my eye when I spotted his response to a post in the Photo Gallery. He noticed the posters bike had the same fairing as he did and since it was fairly rare, posted a picture of his bike in the thread. I'm sure he thought nothing of it, but I noticed it was a nice example of a V4, unmolested and in a very interesting color. I dug around and found a few more pics, and thought to myself, the deal is done. So............

Congratulations Quinn, your 82 V45 Sabre is Octobers Bike of the Month.

Quinn & All,

As is normal I have been waiting for the selection for this month, but I was distracted at work by work. Two four letter words of disgusting meaning in one sentence.

Congratulation Quinn!

John

He is one of our servicemen and that is a Dept of Defense sticker to access the base.

Sort of... at the end of his Air Force career, my father was re-stationed at McGuire AFB after the BRAC closed Griffiss. To spare his family of relocating being true military brats, he commuted back home every weekend ...to Central NY...on this bike (6 hrs --one way).  Damn impressive on a Sabre, if you ask me.  So the sticker has kind of a sentimental value for me.

I've never served, but every service man and woman has my utmost respect for their sacrifices.

Quinn,

Now that impresses me; the preservation of the history of his sacrifice by you speaks volumes to me.

Semper Fi,

John

That's the thing that catches me and what Quinn set in this bike..

A Sabre doesn't need chrome.
A Sabre doesn't need decals and stripes.

All those things distract you from a perfect lined bike.. And the paint looks very cool..
Always had a weak spot for the Sabre.. I like the line of the fuel tank going down in the sidepanel and the aluminium grabrail going up into the tail. Almost looks like the radius going down from the tank and the radius going up to the tail is nearly identical..

Anyway... Congrats Quinn... Welcome to the BOTM owners...

Quinn & All,

Raymond, sometimes it is best (my opinion) that there is a bit of a language issue.

What you typed to us here translates without error to me regarding the Sabre.

You and I see things in these areas similarly it seems, but it is all personal perspective.

I still like the lines of the '39 Indian Scout, so there isn't any accounting for taste, right?

John

Nothing wrong there mate..
To me the mother of V4 designs is the AJS V4 1939 ish..

A complete FU by design looking at the optics, frame rake etc... But stil I wish I had one...

Anyway, talking about frames and radius... This guy, working as a apprentice for our european famous framebuilder, built his own bike..

Every radius on each bent came back identical...
That's what I like about a Sabre... I't is the mother of our Honda VF series. Some say it is ugly, some say it's... whatever...

Quin, you did a great job...

Those are beautiful bikes.  I never noticed what you were talking about with the radii of the lines on the front and aft sides of the side covers before.   :thumb  One of the other things I love about the shape is how the rank starts wide, tapers back, then the panels swell out again for the side covers and then taper back nicely to the tail.  Kind of reminds me of a woman in a coctail dress, which makes sense.  They say some of the most beautiful automotive design ever was modeled after a woman's curves.

(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/48/Hepburn_little_black_dress.jpg)  (http://)  (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-E_9_KcK-RNA/ULujLxVJTLI/AAAAAAAAKxA/Xa7nA1CyyPA/s800/DSC_8057.JPG)

Apparently we're not the only ones who like those lines, since Honda's kept using them on the Nighthawk to an extent.

Most of the time I get praise for the bike, there were even some of my old neighbors' kids (high school --girls none the less) that would always say "Your bike is soooo cool", and it was parked right next to a new Suzuki 600 too.  Then again, some of my buddies bust on me for having a loud, tall-ass 80's bike.  It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess.

People can say what they want about the baby Sabre, but I love the lines too.

Folks,

As we approach the next months recipient being named, I think that is appropriate to say that this machine and owner are worthy and that I for one appreciate his efforts.

Keeping them alive is a serious thing to me.

Well done Sir.
